I Love Science Festival attracted more than 17.000 visitors this weekend
Last weekend, some 17.000 people flocked to the fifth edition of the I Love Science Festival. The free science festival took place in Brussels' Tour & Taxis neighbourhood, bringing three days of free science fun for visitors of all ages.
Innoviris and visit.brussels are thrilled with this successful edition, whose aim was to enable as many visitors as possible to actively experiment with science and technology.
Science is no longer the exclusive preserve of bearded men in white coats and technology surrounds us in our daily lives. When you roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty, science and technology become tangible, linked to social challenges, even art.
The programme included a flight demonstration by the current hoverboard flying world record holder, a vision of the city of the future thanks to Lego and AI, the launch of a water rocket, the northern lights illuminated in an art installation and hair, solving of a murder through blood and saliva analysis. All this was part of the festival's primary goal, to introduce as many people as possible to science and technology in an active way.
Interactive and accessible
Through workshops, animations, exhibitions and labs, visitors of all ages were able to immerse themselves in the world of science. Dozens of interactive stands were set up in the sheds at Tour & Taxis. In total, there were 60 stands spread over seven themed sheds. There were also eight science trucks and a whole range of activities outside.
The more than 11,500m2 space also hosted debates and lectures with Belgian space specialists. The festival also aims to give the youngest among us a taste for science and one of the ways it did this was with a Schools Day on the Friday.
The I Love Science Festival is organised annually by Innoviris in collaboration with visit.brussels for the Brussels-Capital Region. All information about the festival can be found at www.ilovescience.brussels.
